Episode 1: Don’t Lose Your Head

Every person with ADHD has been there.

The piles of clothes on the floor, bed, desk and window sill. The stacks of paper all over the floor. The half eaten sandwich in the bottom of the bag. The ability to know the vicinity we left something in, but never exactly sure where it is.

It’s kept us late, made it difficult to hand in assignments and put our lives in danger of breaking our neck as we hop and skip over each pile between the door and the other side of the room.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

ADHD does not directly translate to disorganised, although when you’re sitting at a desk surrounded by foot high piles of paper and ‘to do’ lists it can feel otherwise.  Organisation’s a choice – a skill we can cultivate habitually to make our life easier. The best thing is it’s an easy skill to learn at any age.

The key to organisation is for each item to have a place where you’ll grab it from every time in the future. This thought process is no different to having a sock drawer and a t-shirt drawer; you’re just applying it to a new situation! However, before we get to have a place for everything we need to know what everything is and sort through it.

Losing stops now. You will no longer be unable to find that item you needed five minutes ago, because you will choose where you will pick it up from instead of wondering where to put it. You’ll be taking control of your life with ADHD with practical solutions that work!
